Ringworm in cats

A fungal skin infection that can spread through contact.

Ringworm is caused by fungi, despite its name. Hair loss and skin changes can resemble other conditions, so veterinary testing matters.

It can spread to people and other animals. Follow veterinary advice for treatment and environmental cleaning, and wash hands after handling an affected cat.

Common signs

Patches of hair loss, scaly skin, sometimes circular lesions

When to contact a vet

Arrange a veterinary assessment for suspicious skin changes. People with a rash should seek advice from a human healthcare professional.
