Read the whole animal, not just the tail

Body language makes more sense when you include the situation.

Look at posture, ears, tail, facial tension, and what is happening nearby together. A single movement does not reliably identify an emotion.

If your pet stiffens, retreats, or growls, pause the interaction and give space. Let them rest and eat undisturbed. Notice changes from their usual behavior and record the circumstances for a useful discussion with a professional.
