Litter boxes: clean, quiet, and easy to reach
Give every cat comfortable access to a clean toilet.
A useful starting point is one litter box per cat, plus one extra, placed in separate quiet locations. Keep them away from food and water, with easy access and an escape route.
Remove waste every day. Clean the boxes regularly with suitable products, rinse thoroughly, and let them dry. Notice changes in the amount of urine, stool, and time spent in the box.

When to contact a vet
Repeated straining with little or no urine is an emergency. New toileting changes also warrant veterinary advice.
