Summer coat care: groom before shaving

A shorter coat is not automatically better protection from heat.

The coat helps protect the skin. Shaving is not a universal solution for hot weather, and coat type matters. Discuss severe matting or a medical need for clipping with a veterinarian or qualified groomer.

Brush loose hair gently, provide a cool resting place and fresh water, and avoid strenuous activity in heat. Check the skin during grooming.
