Giardia in cats and dogs

Stool changes have many possible causes, including parasites.

Giardia is an intestinal parasite acquired by swallowing infective cysts from contaminated surroundings. Infection may cause diarrhea, although some animals show no obvious signs.

A veterinarian interprets stool testing alongside symptoms and history. Remove feces promptly, wash hands, and follow advice on cleaning and any follow-up testing. Routine parasite products do not all cover Giardia.
