Ear mites in cats and dogs

Dark ear debris is a clue, not a diagnosis.

Ear mites can cause irritation and may spread between animals. Other ear problems can produce similar debris and scratching. A veterinary ear examination and sample check help identify the cause.

Ask whether animals in contact also need assessment. Avoid deep cleaning or putting unprescribed products into a painful ear.
