Constipation in cats and dogs

Straining needs careful observation and sometimes urgent help.

Constipation involves difficult or infrequent passage of stool. Several problems can contribute, so repeated straining should not be treated with a guessed remedy.

Record the last normal stool, appetite, medicines, and whether urine is passing. A veterinarian can assess the cause and suitable care. Do not use an enema or laxative without veterinary direction.
